I see what you're saying. I was just trying to show that her mother could have had good intentions, though her religion skewed her execution of them. She saw her daughter's struggle as a spiritual problem with her gender identity instead of helping to accept herself as that gender. I guess I feel like had her religion not been involved, she could have at least had the opportunity to respond in a positive light.
